History and Techniques
History
Crystals have been forming in the earth for millions of years. While doing so they have actively been gathering the life force and energy of not just our planet, but the universe as well.
There are many sacred places, such as wells and streams, that contain and activate this healing energy, spread across the British Isles. The most well known site is the circle of Megaliths placed at Stonehenge in Wiltshire, Southern England. These majestic structures dominate the landscape on Salisbury plain. Many people of all religions travel to this awe-inspiring mystical place to receive healing, and also to send distance healing to those who cannot make the journey for themselves.
Many of the world’s religions have associations with stones and crystals. In the Bible they are used by the Priest Aaron in his breastplate for communication with Angels. King Solomon’s ring was given to him by the four angels of earth, air, fire and water, and showed his power over the elements. The rebuild of Jerusalem had gemstones placed within its foundations. Pope Gregory the Great assigned gemstones to the angelic orders which attracted their energy to the wearer. In early Egyptian law it was believed that the “heavens” were made of stone.
Carnelian, turquoise, lapis lazuli, and occasionally obsidian were often used as amulets or charms. In Shaman traditions of the Native Americans, crystals are believed to originate from the sky, and are still used for initiation and healing. In Islam, the most famous is the Black Stone of Mecca. Today the stone “The right hand of god on earth” is mostly highly revered by pilgrims to Mecca and is shaped from countless devoted touches.
Diamonds were always a symbol of purity and a powerful charm against evil. Stolen diamonds however have not been so lucky for their owners, such as the Koh-i-Noor diamond, the Orloff Diamond, and the Hope Diamond, all of which have coincided with tragedy. Even in a brief look at the history of crystals, a near global pattern emerges.
Crystals and gemstones originally came from, or are at least connected with, heavenly spirits or gods, linking the spirit worlds with humanity. They have the power to effect healing cures, to enhance perception and protection, or disaster to the bearer. When looked at from a different perspective, you could say that crystals help humans expand beyond their accustomed limits, enhancing their ability to step outside their normal world.
What is Crystal Healing?
Crystals and gemstones are surrounded by mythology. Throughout history many legends mention crystals and their magical powers. I’m sure that we are all familiar with the idea of fortune-tellers gazing into crystal balls and foretelling the appearance of tall, dark strangers. However, few of us actually realise that crystals are actually being used by the vast majority of people, every day, quartz watches, computers, televisions, and many conventional medical techniques would not exist without crystals. We base our entire measurement of time upon piezoelectric vibrations from quartz crystal.
The Scientific Theory
Piezoelectric currents are tiny electrical charges which are produced when pressure is applied to a specific kind of crystal. Lighters harvest the surge of piezoelectricity into a spark that ignites a flame. Crystals vary their structure when they are subjected to changes in temperature, water levels (hydration) and they even change colour if you alter their electromagnetic field – we use this characteristic in order to see the black figures on the face of a quartz LCD watch. Water levels are also another factor in the way that crystals behave.
Crystalline structures are everywhere – even in the human body. These are found on the surface of cells and in the cell “battery”, the mitochondria. If we experience changes in water, electromagnetic field or temperature, then biochemical traffic across the cell membrane can be altered, as well as the energy production capacity of the mitochondria. Crystals can, almost like a lens, “focus” the electromagnetic fields that surround cell membranes and mitochondria.
This means that during crystal healing, placing the crystals on nerve clusters usually found around the chakra areas, could lead to significant alterations in the traffic of neurochemical messengers within the nervous system and thus affect body wide chemistry. Given that emotions are often controlled or varied by our body chemistry – it is easy to see how crystals could even affect our moods.
Crystal Healing Techniques
Crystals can be used to balance the chakras. The following are three balancing techniques using crystals that you can do yourself.
Technique I
You will need seven clear quartz crystals about the same size and weight, either natural or tumbled. Lie down and place a crystal on each of the seven major chakra centers. If a stone rolls to a different position three times, leave it where it is. It is likely the body is moving it where it needs to be. You will find that some of the crystals will feel very heavy, like they are sinking into your skin. Others will be so light that you aren’t sure they are still there. Some crystals will feel very cold, others extremely warm or even electric. You may also feel like you are floating or receive inner visions of color or patterns. Each individual is different. Leave the stones in place for at least three or four minutes. The body will find its own balance.
Technique II
You will need seven clear quartz crystal points. This time do not place them on the body, rather place them on the floor or mat next to you pointing inward, toward your body at each chakra center. Lie still for three or four minutes. This will release stress. Then turn the points outwards to recharge and energize the chakra centers. Lie still for another three or four minutes.
Technique III
You will need one red stone, one orange, one yellow, one green, one light blue, one dark blue, one white or golden or violet, and one dark stone. All stones should be approximately the same size and weight. This method is the same as the first, except that coloured stones are used instead of clear quartz crystals. The dark stone or smoky quartz should be placed at the feet for grounding. The remaining stones should be placed at chakra centers according to color: red on the root chakra center, orange on the sacral, yellow on the solar plexus, green on the heart center, light blue on the throat, dark blue on the third eye, and white, golden, or violet on the crown center.
These techniques are deceptively simple. You should be grounded and centered before beginning any crystal healing. With clear intention to balance and heal your chakra centers, these techniques do work. They work best if you meditate to clear your intentions prior to working with the crystals.
Crystals and healing stones should also be cleared before working with them. There are several methods for clearing stones which you will find in this section.
Distance Healing
Place crystals around a portrait or on a map to send healing to a person or an area. This works best with six clear quartz crystals which are programmed with your message of health, healing and peace for the person or place.
