Astral Projection

Astral Projection is the ability to be able to take your etheric body out of the physical one and to move about and travel.

For some people, this can happen spontaneously and without any effort, for others, it takes a great deal of practice and patience.

Astral projection is not just being able to visualise a distant situation or place clearly, but to be there in the same space and even be able to influence the events happening there.

It’s always easier to do things like astral projection when we’re younger – we haven’t lost touch with our minds and spirits, so it can take a bit more time and practice when you’re older, but it is worth persevering!

Learning to meditate and visualise is the first step for anyone wanting to try projection, as it gives you the ability to relax your body and calm your mind, and that control is an essential tool. If you haven’t already done this, there are hints and tips on the Meditation and Visualisation pages.

Some people will have fears that once they have left their physical body, they may not be able to get back to it. There are common sense precautions you can take to keep yourself safe when projecting listed below. Quite possibly it’s the fear of not being able to get back to your body that stops you moving outside the physical. If that is the case, you need to take it slowly and gently.

Perhaps the best way to start is to do a meditation in a closed room – make sure the windows are shut, the door is closed and that you feel safe and secure. Do not try to step outside your body for the first attempt – just become aware of your own aura – explore it from the inside and make sure that it is fully intact. If it isn’t, then you need to repair it before you do anything else. This exercise will do two things – first, it will make you familiar with how things look from the inside and second, will make sure that you’re not leaking energy when you eventually try to project.

Once you have done that, the next step is to programme yourself by saying aloud that you plan to step outside your body, but that you will not leave the room. Then you will experience yourself lifting out of your physical body – all the while, there will be a silvery thread that links your physical body to your astral body. Examine this link and make sure that it feels strong and secure. That will be enough for the first attempt.

Gradually build up what you can do, but stay inside the area that your physical body is, until you are experienced and confident. You will know if you have projected for real, because you will be able to move away from your physical body, but still look over your shoulder and see yourself. I knew I had done it properly for the first time when I saw my physical body stir slightly and it had no effect on ‘me’ in the astral.

In every treatise I’ve read on the subject of projection, leaving your body is always described as if you were to step out of an inert lump, very much as it’s portrayed in films like Ghost. This isn’t how I’ve experienced it, and all I can tell you is what I know. When I leave my body, I just pop out and float above my physical body, looking down on it, attached by the fine silvery cord. There is no slow sitting up, like in the films, one minute I’m inside the physical, and the next I’m up there, floating!

Once you are comfortable leaving your body and moving around your immediate environment, you can move on to more distant travels, but make sure that you feel confident, that you are physically well and that you won’t be disturbed.

If someone inadvertently gives your physical body a jolly good shake to ‘wake you up’ you’ll end up returning with a hard bump, which can be uncomfortable. Likewise, take care of your astral body, as any knocks, bumps and damage will manifest in the physical body too!

As with all ‘how to’ pages on this site, please remember that if you can project, behave ethically, don’t interfere and don’t go changing things against people’s will or without their permission.

Likewise, don’t go out looking for things malevolent, because you will, if you’re not sensible and careful, find them – and they may be a lot bigger and meaner than you can cope with! So, be careful to set your intent before you embark on a journey and know your destination.

It takes practice to get good at astral projection and for some people, it can take ages just to be able to step outside their bodies, so be patient, do it regularly, and travel safely.

Bon voyage!
